We know in the sports arenas that leadership from the head coach is essential for the success of  the whole team. It is not only necessary for success on the football or rugby field but the boardroom  the tenants’ organisation and senior management team too.

The Social Housing Regulators expectorganisation to develop these leadership skills. In the Housing Corporation’s recent dispute resolution toolkit,(published 16 September 2008) it advocates the coaching method as essential to effective dispute resolution. It also says that prevention is better  than the cure. We know that effective leadership through the coaching style helps prevent disputes in teams.

Leadership skills are not innate virtues exhibited by a rare few - they can and must be developed if your organisation  is to excell. Why do we still expect our board, our staff and our tenants to show leadership without offering training? It is essential to top quality tenant involvement.
