Introduction to Climate Change and Net Zero

This session is designed to empower Board members to take an informed, strategic approach to the decarbonisation challenge, aligning sustainability with long-term organisational success.

The call for sustainability, environmental conservation, and the shift to net zero has never been more pressing. This session aims to equip Board members with the essential principles, terminology, and innovative thoughts needed to kickstart the journey towards decarbonisation, empowering participants with fundamental concepts to effectively align organisational strategic goals with sustainability objectives.

Understanding climate change: highlight the critical role the housing sector plays in addressing this issue, including the significant impact of residential buildings on greenhouse gas emissions.

Working toward Net Zero: practical steps, such as retrofitting existing homes with low-carbon technologies like heat pumps, improving insulation, and utilising renewable energy systems.

Decarbonisation strategies: provide actionable insights to help your organisation plan its decarbonisation journey effectively.

Decarbonisation assurance: cover key aspects like monitoring progress, ensuring regulatory compliance, and setting measurable goals to advance your organisation’s sustainability agenda.

Sustainability frameworks: guidance on different sustainability approaches and offer key questions to consider as your organisation navigates its path toward a more sustainable future.

Further information

The training is conducted by Richard Lupo, who is a Chartered Environmentalist and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). He is also the Managing Director of SHIFT, an environmental specialist firm that focuses on supporting organisations in their sustainability efforts, particularly within the housing sector. SHIFT has been acknowledged for its expertise in areas such as carbon emissions, flooding, and green space management.
