Audit committees have become a key element of Board governance within the Housing sector, providing vital assurance to the Board. The basic assurance role of the Audit and Risk Committee has expanded as activities have become more complex and the importance of technology in delivering services has increased.

This session will help participants gain a through understanding of the significance of audit committees in the sector as well as exploring its expanding role.  By the end of the session, participants will be well-equipped to contribute effectively to governance, risk management and assurance in an ever-changing landscape.

Key roles and responsibilities: Understand the fundamental roles and responsibilities of the Audit Risk Committee within the social housing sector and explore how it contributes to overall, governance, risk management, and accountability. 

Relations and contributions of internal and external audit: Explore the relationships between Audit Committees and internal and external audit functions. Learn about risk assessment, control evaluation, and assurance delivery. 

Learn what internal and external audits offer Audit Committees: Explore how the Audit Committee manages internal and external audits and provides the Board with the assurance it needs.

An audit risk and governance specialist within the housing sector. He has over 30 year’s experience working within the sector, with both social landlords and consultancies. He has undertaken various consultancy and interim assignments across the sector within the UK. From an initial audit and risk background, he now specialises in providing governance solutions to small providers.
