Inspections for small and medium sized organisations – from people who have been there

Navigating a regulatory inspection can be challenging, especially under the new English inspection regime. This session is designed to give you first hand insights from two housing associations that have recently undergone inspections by the Regulator of Social Housing. It offers a valuable opportunity to understand the current landscape of regulatory expectations, with a practical perspective on how housing providers of various sizes can effectively prepare for and succeed in inspections.

Donna Johnson, CEO of Willow Tree Housing

Willow Tree Housing (1,500 properties across the Southwest) was formed from the merger of South Western Housing Society and Tamar Housing Society on March 31, 2023. Just over a year later, the association faced its first-ever inspection under the new English regime. Donna will talk about how Willow Tree Housing navigated the inspection process, particularly as a smaller provider. She will talk about the challenges around proportionality and customer engagement while balancing other demands on the organisations such as health & safety compliance.

Jenny Spoor, Director of Operations at Havebury Housing Partnership

With 7,500 properties in Suffolk, Havebury Housing Partnership underwent inspection in spring 2024. Jenny will share insights into Havebury’s experience with a particular focus on consumer standards, offering valuable lessons in effectively preparing for inspections and aligning operations with regulatory expectations.
