This session provides Board members from housing associations and public-sector organisations with an understanding of the Equality Act 2010 and its importance to governance. We will explain key legal concepts, including the nine protected characteristics and different types of discrimination. We will also look at how equality duties apply to strategic and policy decisions, giving you the foundational legal knowledge to make lawful, defensible decisions.
By the end of this session, you will understand the purpose, structure, and scope of the Equality Act 2010. You will be able to explain the differences between equality, diversity, and inclusion and distinguish equality from equity in governance. You will also learn when the Public Sector Equality Duty applies and what it means to show due regard at Board level.
