EDI Part Two: Practical Equality Oversight

This advanced session builds upon the foundational material from part one by examining how Housing Association Boards can implement equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within practical governance scenarios. Housing providers serve diverse communities, and board decisions significantly affect access to housing, tenant safety, well-being, and public trust in services. Regulatory frameworks, such as the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023, have increased expectations for fairness, transparency, and tenant engagement.

It guides social housing leaders through concrete steps that demonstrate effective oversight, accountability and leadership in terms of equality and inclusion.

What you will learn

  • Bridging the gap between policy and practice: while many boards understand the concept of equality, they struggle to implement it. This session addresses that gap by exploring real governance scenarios, practical Board-level questions, decision-making frameworks and considerations of equality impact.
  • Practical value and outcomes: participants will understand effective EDI governance, receive tools to evaluate equality in Board documents and decisions, gain insight into regulatory expectations, and develop confidence to challenge and improve organisational practice.
  • Sector leadership and best practice: guidance from bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Housing and National Housing Federation helps Boards lead inclusive governance, build diverse leadership, and deliver equitable services.
